To make this piece, we embarked on a journey of deconstruction, using silk velvet dresses from the 1930s and cotton velvet curtains from the 1940s. Through this process, we crafted our own fabric, featuring rich stripes that evoke the nostalgia of old, plush velvet sofas.
The result is a cool and distinctive bag that reflects our love for craftsmanship and attention to detail.
The straps on ALVA are slightly shorter and spongier than our AIRTH bags, but they can still be comfortably worn over the shoulder or across the arm. This is the perfect bag for day-tripping or a weekend away. It's foldable if you want to pack it in a larger case, and contains a removable solid base which helps keep the shape when wearing.
All of our products are designed and produced by a small female team in Co. Donegal, on the North west coast of Ireland.
Each piece is beautifully boxed and packaged and comes with a heavy cotton dust-bag, perfect for future use. Handmade by us at the studio using dead-stock cotton.

REUSE & RECREATE: The textiles we use in our collections come from a range of sources which aim to reduce our environmental impact. We primarily use vintage and antique textiles. We also utilise salvaged and remnant fabrics from the fashion and interiors industry. As well as deadstock fabrics for lining.
As such, there may be small imperfections or blemishes in the fabric. We believe this is part of the appeal of buying a unique, handcrafted product, and we celebrate the idiosyncrasies. ALVA has a couple of tiny blemishes which are difficult to spot due to the brushed nature of this velvet. This does not detract in any way from the overall look.
CARE DETAILS: We recommend dry cleaning on all of our products. Velvet doesn't love the rain, so please take care in wet weather, water marks will dry out but your bag will keep in tip-top condition if you treat it with care.
Avoid Overloading: Do not fill your bags beyond their capacity. This can strain the seams and straps. Our velvet totes are great for clothing and overnight or everyday essentials.
